PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL The Parish Pastoral Council is the formal means for parishioners and the Pastoral Coordinator to meet to discuss the needs and hopes of St. Mark's. The Pastoral Council forms and evaluates plans for fostering the life and activity of our Church community. The Parish Pastoral Council {PPC} is governed by norms determined by Diocesan Guidelines. PASTORAL COUNCIL COMMISSIONS St. Mark’s has seven commissions which encourage and coordinate the efforts of the parish staff and parishioners in areas of community life.
FINANCE COUNCIL The Finance Council assists the Pastoral Coordinator in the administration of parish material goods. This commission oversees the financial aspects of the parish.
CHRISTIAN SERVICE COMMISSION The Christian Service Commission serves to coordinate and develop programs for people in need in the local area, and responds to social justice issues in our parish, city and world. Proceeds collected help individuals and families in need, as well as outreach programs. The goal of the Christian Service Commission is to implement the corporal works of mercy.
EDUCATION COMMISSION The Education Commission advises the Pastoral Coordinator and the Director of Religious Education in regard to pre-school through high school educational programs at St. Mark.
PARISH LIFE COMMISSION The Parish Life Commission advises and supports parishioners and the Pastoral Coordinator in fostering community spirit at St. Mark’s. This commission helps parish members experience community in social and recreational activities by organizing parish celebrations.
MAINTENANCE COMMISSION The Maintenance Commission periodically inspects parish property to
insure it remains in proper repair. Recommendations are made to the Pastoral Coordinator,Finance Council, and Pastoral Council when major repair or services are required.
PARISH WORSHIP COMMISSION The Parish Worship Commission works to bring about spiritual growth among the people of our parish. The commission plans Advent and Lenten programs, evenings of reflection and various prayer opportunities.
ADULT FAITH FORMATION The mission of the Adult Faith Formation Ministry is to affirm, support and strengthen all facets of family within the parish community. Our ministry includes outreach among old and young, singles, married, remarried, divorced, and widowed, two-parent families, single parent families, stepfamilies, families with special needs, and families in the various cycles of development.
ORGANIZATIONS IN THE PARISH Parishioners are encouraged to become active in the important ministry of these organizations:
CATHOLIC WOMEN’S SOCIETY All women of the parish are encouraged to be members of the Women's Society. The purpose of this organization is to unite the women of St. Mark’s for the spiritual, social and educational good of its members and for the welfare of the parish. Funds are raised for specific parish needs, with priority given to the sanctuary. Projects sponsored by the Women’s Society include Scrap booking, bake sales and other activities. Members also launder church linens and purchase flowers for the sanctuary for Christmas, Easter & during the year. The Women’s Society has established the St. Gerard Ministry to reach out to expectant mothers in our parish. The Women’s Society is a member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm.
MEN’S CLUB The Men's Club encourages fuller participation of the men of St. Mark's. This organization also furthers Christian fellowship among all members of the parish and helps to build a stronger faith community. The Men's Club does much to help the parish by sponsoring breakfasts, brunches, dinners, and family centered celebrations throughout the year. Meetings are the first Thursday of each month at 7:30pm.
FIFTY AND UP CLUB All parish members who are at least fifty years “young” are invited to gather for friendship and fun. Gatherings are the first Thursday of each month starting at 6:00pm with a potluck supper at the Parish Center.
ST. JOSEPH GUILD St. Joseph Guild members meet weekly to garden,landscape,and do minor repairs,as well as enjoy each other's company. Guild members are well known for the beautiful grounds at St. Mark's. They are recognized on the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker every May 1st, when SJG groups from all over Genesee County come together for a special Mass and reception. The St. Joseph Guild meets from 9:00 am to 11:00 am each Wednesday.
PRAYER CHAIN - TELECARE/E-MAIL Individuals from our St. Mark community join together with you in prayer for your special intention.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Davison Knights of Columbus #4090 is a fraternal organization. Through fund raising projects this organization is able to assist many charitable organizations.
SPIRITUAL DIRECTION A trained spiritual director is available for individuals who seek to deepen their relationship with God. A spiritual director is someone to whom you can talk freely and confidentially about your personal spiritual life. Call the office for more information.
PARISH NURSE Parish Nurse Ministry is a group of medical professionals, headed by a registered nurse. They seek to encourage a ‘whole person’ approach to health within the faith community. The Parish Nurse Ministry sponsors monthly blood pressure checks, as well as other special programs to help meet the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of the parishioners of St. Mark's. There are regular scheduled Red Cross Blood Drives at the Parish Center.
The Caring Friends Ministry is a group of men and women who are available to 'listen' and to be a friend.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY members knit or crochet shawls that are given to persons who are ill, have suffered a loss, or are in the midst of a life crisis. The prayer shawl is a soft, warm shawl, which is knitted or crocheted. It is taken to the person in need of comfort, along with a prayer.
